EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH! Are you for it, or against it?

Ok, so I鈥檓 doing a controversial research paper in which I must pick a side and defend it. I am for it for these reasons: The advancement of therapeutic cloning (growing organs,) the cure for numerous diseases, and the study of human development (why we are the way we are, prevention of birth defects etc.) Ok, so give me your input; tell me why you鈥檙e for OR against it. Also, if you鈥檙e for it, can you provide good information and the possible outcome of that research? I've already searched the net but I鈥檇 like personal opinions. Thanks! And please don鈥檛 take this topic personal. Just because I'm for it doesn鈥檛 mean in not religious.
Answer:
i am 100% for it, due to the insights and possible medical advances in the research for spinal muscular atrophy.
I agree with you 100%.
OK, I am FOR Stem Cell research, but NOT Embryonic Stem cell research. Embryonic stem cell research kills the embryo, hence murder. You can get stem cells from adults and from the umbilical cords at birth. You do not need to kill innocent embryos(human beings)
Hi. I think using a natural stem cell (embryonic or not) should be used to learn how they work. If we were to understand enough about 'how' we could perhaps make either an artificial stem cell or find a 'HeLa' type cell. : http://www.answers.com/hela There would still be controversy, of course, but at least the 'baby' would not be at the center of it.
I think stem cell research is vital in finding a cure for any disease in this world. Especially diseases like Parkinson's, Type I diabetes any kind of genetic disorder can be cure with stem cell research
for it! because of the benefits
Against.
100% in favor of embryonic stem cell research. Those who are against it are simply uninformed. Taking an uninformed stance on a controversial issue is horribly irresponsible.Embryonic stem cells are obtained from the "leftovers" of in vitro fertilization (it sounds like you already know that). So, those who oppose the research are saying that it would be better to continue discarding these leftovers, as we have been doing for many years, rather than salvage them for the benefit of mankind. To all those who blindly oppose stem cell research: My wife has M.S. Perhaps you can explain to our young children why you think the scientific world shouldn't help her.
I am all for curing diseases and developing a better understanding of the human body through stem cell research. In fact, I have the strange philosophy that eventually no one in the world should ever die unless they intend to.However... I'm not for killing anything for whatever reason. When I see a fly buzzing around my room, I am the kind of person who spends five minutes just to catch it so I can release it outside unharmed. Now, people are already killing unborn humans for completely ridiculous reasons. One example given was the in vitro "leftover" situation. That angers me, and I disagree with it. But if these embryos ARE going to be murdered no matter what I do or say, then I might as well recommend they be murdered in such a way that their death has some meaning, some benefit for mankind. That having been said, I would much rather see people completely stopping the practice of killing embryos, and all of the cures we hope for being derived from adult stem cells. Can't we find a way to force adult stem cells to be just as powerful as their embryonic counterparts?
for it... 100% in any way shape or form. progress! onward with the human race!
